9.15pm: Barisan by-election director Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah says it looks like the coalition has regained the support of the young and Chinese. He thanks voters for their support adding that it is a heavy responsibility to uphold but the new Galas assemblyman Ab Aziz Yusoff is up to it.

8.30pm: Official result: Barisan Nasional regains Galas. Ab Aziz Yusoff (BN) 5324 votes, Dr Zulkefli Mohamad (PAS) 4134; Majority: 1190

7.50pm: BN projected to win by about 1,000 votes. BN election director Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah is scheduled to address supporters at 9.30pm.

7.45pm: PKR's strategic director Tian Chua concedes defeat in Galas. He tweets "PAS-PR failed to defend Galas. Comrades, let's work harder & be ready for GE13. Meanwhile congratulation to Tengku @Razaleigh".

7.05pm: Unofficial results BN leads by slim majority midway in the tallying process.

6.45pm: Final voter turnout 9,555 voters or 82.71%.

6.30pm: Unofficial results: BN won Kg Pulai voting area with a majority of 74.

5.45pm: EC dep chairman Wan Ahmad says final voter turnout expected to be over 80% (close to 82%).

"Without the four orang asli areas, we already have 78% voter turnout" he said.

He said voting in all 13 districts went smoothly, adding that the scuffles and verbal assaults which occured were carried out by non-residents of Gua Musang area.

He praised the police for maintaining order and expects counting to start at 6.30pm. Results should be known by 8pm.

5pm: Polling stations closes. Voter turnout at 5pm 77.73% or 8,980 voters, not including three orang asli stations.

4.30pm: Upbeat mood at Barisan's main operations centre in Bukit Cekati. Campaigners seen giving high fives as some predict Barisan regaining the seat

4.20pm: EC: Voter turnout as at 4pm is 7,561 or 66.23%.

4pm: PAS elections director Datuk Ab Halim Ab Rahman says party is optimistic of winning Galas as 90% of estimated 1,557 outstation voters had returned to vote. PAS is convinced they had supported the party, he says.

3.30pm: The 3pm voter turnout was 66.23% or 7,651 voters. The figure does not include orang asli polling stations.

1.30pm: 1pm Voter turnout is 55.75% or 6,441 voters, EC announces.

1pm: According to police, a Puteri Umno leader from the Kuala Krai division was warded at the Gua Musang hospital after she was allegedly punched by a PAS Muslimat member.

12.30pm: Voter turnout as at noon is 49.61% or 5,732 voters. This figure does not include turnout in six orang asli polling stations.

11am: Traffic jams in various parts of Gua Musang as more voters turn up. The skies are clearer now.

10.15am: Voter turnout as at 10am is 24.02% or 2,775 voters. The figure does not include turnout in six orang asli polling stations.

9.45am: Traffic almost at a standstill near the Gua Musang old town but police manning traffic to disperse vehicles faster.

BN and PAS supporters outside voting centre at SJK (C) Gua Musang asked to remove their posters by SPR officers. PAS supporters carried posters saying "Minyak Naik Lagi", while BN supporters had posters saying "PAS Rasuah Nik Aziz Rasuah".

9am: BN and Pakatan Rakyat leaders, including their candidates, seen making their rounds at polling stations.

Shouting matches ensue between BN and PAS supporters, who are not properly separated, in front of the SK Gua Musang polling centre. Police move in to keep things under control.

8am: Voters trickling in slowly at 13 polling stations, keeping an eye on the cloudy skies.

GUA MUSANG: Polling began for the Galas state seat under cloudy skies, with slow movement of voters into the 13 polling centres.

The contest for the Galas state seat is a straight fight between Barisan Nasional's Abdul Aziz Yusoff and PAS Dr Zulkefli Mohamad, 44.

The by-election was called following the death from cancer of incumbent Chek Hashim Sulaima of PAS, on Sept 27.

There are 11,553 voters in Galas, comprising 7,125 Malay voters, 2,317 Chinese, 185 Indians, 10 members of the Siamese community and 1,889 orang asli.

GUA MUSANG 4 Nov. - Barisan Nasional (BN) merampas kembali kerusi Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Galas dengan majoriti 1,190 undi pada pilihan raya kecil kawasan itu, hari ini.

Calon BN, Abdul Aziz Yusoff memperoleh 5,324 undi manakala calon Pas, Dr. Zulkefli Mohamed mendapat 4,134 undi.

Ini merupakan kekalahan ketiga bagi Dr. Zulkefli yang sebelum ini sudah tewas dua kali dalam pilihan raya umum iaitu pada 2004 dan 2008 kepada Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah bagi merebut kerusi Parlimen Gua Musang.

Peratusan keluar mengundi juga meningkat iaitu 83 peratus berbanding 81.1 peratus pada 2008, manakala sebanyak 132 undi rosak.

Keputusan Pilihan Raya Kecil DUN Galas itu diumumkan oleh Pegawai Pengurus Pilihan Raya, Wan Mustapha Wan Abdul Hamid di Pusat Sivik, di sini pada pukul 8.55 malam.

Selain faktor kepimpinan dan pengaruh Tengku Razaleigh yang juga Pengarah Pilihan Raya BN bagi DUN Galas, kejayaan BN juga didorong oleh kerja keras jentera parti itu dalam tempoh 48 jam sebelum kempen berakhir.

Ia termasuk tindakan jentera BN menggempur kawasan yang dianggap kubu kuat Pas seperti Bandar Bharu, Kampung Baru dan Sungai Terah pada hari terakhir kempen.

Walaupun Pas dengan bantuan Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) dan DAP cuba memainkan isu-isu nasional namun ia tidak mendatangkan hasil, sebaliknya Pas yang jentera partinya diketuai oleh Ahli Parlimen Pengkalan Chepa, Datuk Abdul Halim Abdul Rahman terpaksa berhadapan pelbagai isu membabitkan pentadbiran Kerajaan Pas Kelantan.

DUN Galas yang dianggap kubu kuat BN dirampas oleh Pas melalui Allahyarham Chek Hashim Sulaima pada Pilihan Raya Umum 2008 selepas menewaskan calon BN, Saufi Deraman dengan majoriti tipis 646 undi. Dua lagi kerusi DUN di dalam Parlimen Gua Musang adalah Paloh dan Nenggiri yang kedua-duanya milik BN.

BN kekal kerusi Batu Sapi dengan majoriti besar

SANDAKAN 4 Nov. - Barisan Nasional (BN) mengekalkan kerusi Parlimen Batu Sapi dengan majoriti besar, 6,359 undi, walaupun terpaksa berdepan dengan dua parti lawan, Parti Maju Sabah (SAPP) dan Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR).

Calon BN, Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin memperoleh 9,773 undi mengalahkan calon SAPP, Datuk Yong Teck Lee 2,031 undi dan calon Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Ansaari Abdullah 3,414 undi.

Keputusan diumumkan Pegawai Pengurus Pilihan Raya Parlimen Batu Sapi, Mohamad Hamsan Awang Supain pada pukul 8.33 malam di Dewan Majlis Perbandaran Sandakan di sini hari ini.

"Dengan ini saya mengumumkan Ahli Dewan Rakyat yang dipilih bagi kerusi P.185 Batu Sapi ialah Datin Linda Tsen Thau Lin daripada Barisan Nasional (BN)," katanya.

Sebanyak 372 undi rosak manakala 61.47 peratus atau 15,774 daripada 25,582 pengundi telah keluar mengundi.

Kerusi Parlimen Batu Sapi kosong selepas penyandangnya, Datuk Edmund Chong Ket Wah meninggal dunia pada 9 Oktober lalu setelah terbabit dalam kemalangan maut di Kota Kinabalu.

Proses pengiraan 46 kotak pembuangan undi termasuk undi pos di 12 pusat pengundian selesai pada pukul 7.45 malam sebelum pengumuman calon yang menang dibuat oleh Mohamad Hamsan.

Kemenangan Linda Tsen turut diraikan oleh Timbalan Perdana Menteri, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin; Ketua Menteri Sabah, Datuk Seri Musa Aman; Presiden Parti Bersatu Sabah (PBS), Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan dan pemimpin parti komponen BN lain.

Kemenangan itu sekali gus membuktikan rakyat Sabah masih berdiri teguh di belakang kerajaan BN dan menyokong gagasan 1 Malaysia.

Keupayaan calon BN mengumpul majoriti besar, walaupun jumlah peratusan mengundi rendah, hanya 61.47 peratus berbanding 63.06 peratus pada Pilihan Raya Umum 2008 membuktikan rakyat di Batu Sapi masih setia bersama BN.

Pada pilihan raya umum 2008, calon BN, mendiang Edmund menang dengan majoriti 3,708 setelah mendapat 9,479 undi menewaskan calon Bebas, Chung Kwong Wing (Bebas) yang hanya mengumpul 5,771.
