CHUA Soi Lek dan Liow Tiong Lai bersama-sama mengangkat tangan sebagai tanda kemenangan selepas diumumkan sebagai Presiden dan Timbalan Presiden MCA pada pemilihan baru parti di Wisma MCA, Kuala Lumpur, semalam.

KUALA LUMPUR 28 Mac – Bekas Timbalan Presiden MCA, Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek memenangi jawatan Presiden parti dengan majoriti tipis 68 undi, mengetepikan bekas pemimpin nombor satu, Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting dan penyandang jawatan, Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat dalam pemilihan parti di sini hari ini.

Soi Lek, 62, memperoleh 901 undi berbanding Ka Ting meraih 833 undi manakala Tee Keat di tempat tercorot dengan 578 undi.

Speaker, Datuk Yip Phooi Hong mengumumkan keputusan tersebut kira-kira pukul 6.45 petang yang disusuli sorakan bergema penyokong Soi Lek.

Dengan keputusan tersebut, Soi Lek mempunyai tugas berat dalam usaha menyatukan semula kepimpinan MCA selepas parti berkenaan melalui fasa krisis kepimpinan sejak dua tahun lalu.

Malah pemilihan Soi Lek itu turut memberi satu mesej jelas bahawa kepimpinannya diperlukan untuk mengembalikan semula kepercayaan ahli-ahli parti serta masyarakat Cina keseluruhannya kepada MCA.

Walaupun kemenangan Soi Lek sudah diduga tetapi agak memeranjatkan apabila jumlah undi yang diperoleh Tee Keat paling sedikit dan jurangnya agak jauh berbanding dua calon lain memandangkan beliau merupakan penyandang jawatan.

Semua yang terpilih hari ini akan memegang jawatan sehingga Oktober 2011.

Bagi jawatan Timbalan Presiden, Menteri Kesihatan, Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai menang tipis apabila majoriti yang diperolehnya hanya 65 undi sahaja.

Tiong Lai berjaya memperoleh 1,171 manakala lawannya Datuk Seri Kong Cho Ha yang juga Menteri Perumahan dan Kerajaan Tempatan dan bekas Naib Presiden memperoleh 1,106 undi.

Bagi jawatan Naib Presiden pula, perwakilan telah memilih Menteri Pelancongan, Datuk Seri Ng Yen Yen, Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai; Timbalan Menteri Kewangan, Datuk Chor Chee Heung dan Ahli Jawatankuasa Pusat (CC), Gan Ping Sieu.

Bagi perebutan 25 jawatan dalam CC, Timbalan Menteri Luar, Datuk Lee Chee Leong mendapat undi paling tinggi.

Seramai 86 calon bertanding dengan jumlah perwakilan yang membuang undi hari ini mencatat angka paling tinggi iaitu 2,315 orang. Tiga perwakilan tidak mengambil kertas undi sebaik sahaja proses pemilihan diadakan.

New MCA President wants to listen more to grassroots

KUALA LUMPUR March 28 — Newly-elected MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek wants to practise inclusive and collective leadership, as well as listening more to the voice of the grassroots.

“This is a beginning and a challenge for us to discharge our duties as mandated by the delegates. Our task begins today. We are confident that with the support of all quarters, we will be able to move forward,” he said.

Thanking his predecessor Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat and challenger Tan Sri Ong Ka Ting, he welcomed their advice and guidance, as well as cooperation, in helping to strengthen the party.

Dr Chua, 62, polled 901 votes against Ka Ting”s 833 while Tee Keat came third with 578 votes in the party poll held today.

During a joint press conference with other winners in the poll, Dr Chua also thanked the 2,315 delegates who had given him the chance to serve.

Announcement of the much-anticipated results by Speaker Datuk Yik Phooi Hong at 6.50pm at San Choon Hall in Wisma MCA here, was met with cheers and jeers by both Dr Chua”s supporters and those from rival camps.

The hall also erupted into complete chaos when media people tried to ambush the newly-crowned president who was swamped by supporters.

Dr Chua, who was overwhelmed by the victory, did not take questions from the media and left with his wife, Datin Seri Wong Sek Hin, and other close allies.

This election also saw a mix of candidates allied to leaders in three main feuding factions prior to the EGM, being elected, which some observers fear would be another daunting task for the president to unite them due to a tainted image over a sex scandal.

Dr Chua”s immediate task will be to help Barisan Nasional wrest back the Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat in a soon to-be-held by-election.

However, vice-president Datuk Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen was quick to point out that the scandal had no bearing when delegates made their decision.

“Can see very clearly what the central delegates want in a leader. They want to see a leader with all the combination of good leadership — dynamism, practicality, courage, organisation power, management skills.

"All these are taken into consideration, and I want to say I think the delegates are telling everyone that they have forgiven Datuk Seri (Dr Chua). It is very clear. All the things they want. The leader must have all these qualities,” she told reporters.

A party member from Melaka agreed with Dr Ng, saying that society should not mix up Dr Chua”s private life and his leadership capability.

"For me, the scandal is history and that he should be given another chance.

Besides, what MCA needs now is a leader of calibre who can lead the party well.

What good is it if you put a leader with squeaky clean image but cannot lead?,” he asked.

Dr Chua had served as health minister and party vice-president before he relinquished all posts in January 2008 when he admitted he was the man in a widely-distributed sex DVD.

“我果然是NO.1。”蔡细历终于如愿以偿登上马华总会长龙椅。
（吉隆坡28日讯）马华原任署理总会长拿督斯里蔡细历医生今天在该党旨在解决内部纷争的重选特大中击败前总会长丹斯里黄家定及原任总会长拿督斯里翁诗杰，在一场三角战中脱颖而出，成为这个全国最大华基政党的新任总会长。

一对一的署理总会长战役，一向主张通过重选息纷争的原任副总会长拿督斯里廖中莱以1171票当选，至于一直和蔡细历并肩拉票的原任副总会长拿督斯里江作汉，则以1106票落败。

署理总会长也被形容为“部长对部长”之争，廖中莱是卫生部长，江作汉则是房屋及地方政府部长。

直到投票前夕，仍受到性爱光碟课题困扰的蔡细历今天得票901张，其次是得833票的黄家定，翁诗杰则仅得578票。

马华2377名中央代表当中，共有2318人出席今天的重选特别代表大会，出席率达97.52%，但是，领取选票者只有2315人，换言之，有3名中央代表没有参与投票。

发生十角混战的4个副总会长职，最终选出被视为包容各派系人马的阵容，其中，原任的拿督斯里黄燕燕医生以最高的1528票中选，其次是一直自称“马华派”的拿督林祥才（1469票）；其余两名新任副总会长皆得1202票，他们是来自黄廖派的拿督曹智雄及来自翁派的颜炳寿。

86人混战的25个中委职位，三派人马皆广纳其中，尤其是大将，其中包括前总会长黄家定之胞兄拿督斯里黄家泉，蔡派支持者方面，郑修强及陈财和皆高票中选，翁派方面，除了最高票中选的李志亮，一向被视为翁诗杰忠贞支持者的王赛芝也中选。副部长如黄日升及何国忠也都名列新任中委。

新中委阵容也像副总一般，包容各造，反映“归队”精神，充份显示马华中央代表要各派系在重选后团结一致，整合对外的意愿。

这项特大仅耗一小时18分钟便完成投票程序，计票工作在下午约2时开始进行。

特大议长拿督易沛鸿是于下午约7时宣布选举成绩。
