[hang nadim] Raja Petra yet to give statement to police.....

PUTRAJAYA: Blogger Raja Petra Kamaruddin has yet to give his statement to the police even though he has said he was willing to be interviewed.

In his latest posting in Malaysia Today, Raja Petra claimed he told a senior police officer from Bukit Aman who had come to Bangkok to interview him on Saturday that he was ready to be interviewed provided the interview was held in a hotel and not in

Malaysian Embassy there.

However, he alleged that the officer had refused his offer at 2am Sunday.

“I informed him (the officer) that I volunteer to make my statement but he told me that he was no longer interested to take my statement. And that was how the Bangkok drama ended at 2am,” he wrote.

Raja Petra said he had agreed to the police interview despite misgivings expressed by his lawyers Haris Ibrahim and Amarjit Sidhu as the police were very vague about the reason for wanting his statement.

Raja Petra was in Bangkok to give talk to Malaysians there about his Malaysian Civil Liberties Movement (MCLM). He is the chairman of the movement while Haris is the president.

Azmin berang dengan Mustafa

Oleh MOHD. ASRON MUSTAPHA
mohdasron.mustapha@utusan.com.my

Rahim Tamby Chik willing to face legal action for nation’s sake
MALACCA: Former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik said he is willing to face legal action over the screening of a video recording of a sex act involving a man resembling opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

"If those behind the screening are charged in court, so be it, as upholding the interest of the country is far bigger than facing court action," he told reporters at a function here on Sunday.

He was commenting on a news report that police may charge the "Datuk T" trio responsible for screening the video recording.

On Monday, deputy CID director Datuk Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani said police did not dismiss this possibility as it was an offence under Section 292 of the Penal Code, to screen pornographic material.

However, Abdul Rahim, who is Risda chairman, said: "We don't distribute or produce (the video), the item was discovered."

He stressed that the police had a "national responsibility" to reveal who were involved in the sex act.

On March 21, the sex video was screened for several selected journalists at Carcosa Seri Negara hotel in Kuala Lumpur.

The mystery of the "Datuk T" trio comprising Abdul Rahim, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Perkasa treasurer Datuk Shuib Lazim was uncovered on March 23, when Rahim and Eskay admitted at a press conference that they had screened the sex video for the group of journalists.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Oman recently said that the video was confirmed to be genuine by experts who examined it. - Bernama

Anwar told to swear on Quran
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been challenged to clear his name by swearing on the Quran that he is not the man in a sex video.

Former Perkasa treasurer-general Datuk Shuaib Lazim, one of the Datuk T trio who exposed the existence of the sex video, said the Opposition Leader must come clean by swearing on the holy book.

"... and they call themselves ‘ulama’"- DATUK SHUAIB LAZIM
He also challenged PAS leaders Datuk Nik Aziz Nik Mat and Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang to swear on the Quran that they truly believed Anwar was a victim of slander.

“Nik Aziz and Hadi were quick to accuse us of slandering Anwar without even viewing the video.

“They make sweeping statements against us without even looking at the evidence, and they call themselves ulama,” he said.

Shuaib, businessman Datuk Shazryl Eskay Abdullah and former Malacca chief minister Tan Sri Abdul Rahim Tamby Chik, collectively known as Datuk T, exposed the existence of the video showing a man resembling Anwar having sex with a woman believed to be a prostitute.

Anwar, who denied that he was the man in the sex video, lodged a police report claiming that it was a conspiracy to end his political career.

Police have recommended Datuk T to be charged for screening the video to several members of the media at Carcosa Sri Negara on March 21.

Shuaib said the video was screened as documented evidence to expose the truth.

“We did not show it to the public. We invited a few senior members of the media to discreetly view the documented evidence so that they could expose the truth to the public,” he said, stressing that they had taken extreme caution to prevent re-copying.

Shuaib also added that they did not immediately surrender the sex video to the police so as not to give Anwar “extra ammunition” to attack government institutions.

“Anwar has always been accusing the police of doing the Government's bidding.

“That is why we showed the evidence to the media before surrendering the video to the police,” he said, stressing that the public must know the truth.

Kita central committee member Firdaus Christopher called on Anwar to step down as Opposition Leader pending the outcome of police investigations.

“Anwar should relinquish all his political posts and return only after his name has been cleared,” he said.

In Bukit Mertajam, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ismail Omar said the police investigation papers pertaining to the video would be ready for re-submission to the Attorney-General (AG) soon.

He said police had submitted the investigation papers to the AG last week but they were returned as there were still several loose ends to tie up.
